The fire safety check every landlord should do before letting a property

Working smoke alarms on every floor, a clear escape route, fire doors in good condition, and an up-to-date electrical certificate. These four things save lives. I do pre-tenancy safety checks and I'm consistently surprised by how many properties fail on at least one of them.
